Chunky mohair blanket in dark charcoal color on a bed
ColorCobalt
Made to order (estimated): 2-4 weeks
Description

This handwoven blanket is crafted from a plush mohair-rich blend with long, carefully hand-rolled fringes that create a voluminous, textured surface. Designed for layering over a sofa or bed, it provides exceptional warmth and softness while remaining light enough to drape and move with ease.

The Chunky Mohair Throw Blanket by Layered is a luxurious textile accent woven in South Africa from an 88% mohair, 8% wool, and 4% nylon blend with distinctive hand-finished fringes. Its construction emphasizes careful craftsmanship, with each fringe rolled from multiple threads to give the throw a sculptural, tactile edge. Standard dimensions are 140 x 200 cm (55.1 x 78.7 in), with a larger 140 x 276 cm (55.1 x 108.7 in) size that can be used as a bedspread. The surface has a soft, fluffy pile that can be refreshed over time by gently brushing to maintain volume and texture. Earthy tones and richer accent colors make this throw suitable for both minimal and layered interiors. Variants include multiple colorways that shift the expression from calm and neutral to more graphic and bold. Dry cleaning is recommended, with low-temperature ironing and careful handling to preserve the natural character of the fibers.

Product Care

Dry cleaning only, iron at a low temperature, do not tumble dry or use bleach. After some time, all-natural wool tends to form burls (small balls of wool on the surface). The finer the wool the more sensitive it is. Avoid too high pressure on the blanket as this may contribute to the creation of burls, do e.g., not use it as a seat cushion or as the primary cover for a sofa. To keep the blanket soft and fluffy you “rug” it. This can be done several times with help of a steel comb or Velcro. Hold the Velcro vertical and grab both ends between your thumb and index finger. The “teeth” on the Velcro should be in the same direction as you intend to brush. If you hold it correct it should go smooth and be neither heavy nor unsteady. Brush the blanket from within and out, with long, even and sweeping movements. Do not brush too hard – as you may risk losing too much of the wool fibres. Cover the blanket piece by piece, until it is fluffy and has an even surface. Finish off by hanging it outside to air.
