Description

The Edge Shelf by Mater is a minimalist wall shelf designed by Sarahlou using Matek®, a circular material made from recycled coffee waste. Measuring 60 × 21 × 10 cm, the shelf is composed of thin panels that appear to float on the wall. Available in Coffee Waste Light or Dark finishes, the Edge Shelf can be used alone or grouped in multiples for visual interest. Ideal for both private and public spaces, the Edge Shelf provides functional storage while showcasing sustainable design.

Material

Cutting-edge technology allows Mater to make furniture from waste materials in their patented Matek® material by combining fibre with a binder. The Matek® is made by mixing e-waste with either coffee waste from Danish coffee producer BKI Kaffe or wood waste.

E-waste is a growing environmental concern across the globe due to the world’s use and throwaway
culture. Only 17.4% of total global e-waste is known to have been collected and properly recycled. This figure has dropped over the last five years as a percentage of total waste generated.
