Description

This patchwork rug is made from natural sheepskins stitched together to create a dense, tactile wool surface that insulates and softens hard floors. It can be used as a floor rug or wall hanging, bringing natural texture, warmth, and subtle tonal variation to living spaces, bedrooms, or reading corners.

The Brown Sheepskin Patchwork Rug is composed of 100% Tibetan sheepskin panels, sourced as a by-product of the meat and food industry, hides collected from local farmers and butchers, so no animal is raised for its skin alone. Each piece is tanned by hand at the only remaining sheepskin tannery in the Netherlands, a family-run facility practicing this craft since 1861 using environmentally conscious methods. The panels are carefully sewn to form a unified, softly irregular surface, with individual variations in shade and pile that reflect the character of the original hides while maintaining a cohesive brown palette.

The rug measures approximately 120 x 180 cm (47.24 x 70.87 inches), making it suitable for beside a bed, under a coffee table, or as an accent in a reading corner. Edges are finished to showcase the patchwork construction and allow the rug to lie flat while preserving the plush loft of the wool. The surface is left in its natural, tactile finish — equally at home on the floor or displayed as a wall hanging where its texture and tonal shifts can be appreciated at eye level.

This rug works in minimalist and warm contemporary spaces where natural materials are emphasized over ornament. Regular shaking and gentle brushing help maintain the softness of the wool, while spot cleaning with lukewarm water and wool-safe detergent keeps it looking refined over time.
